My Dog Keeps Licking Everything,Is this normal behavior?
Okay, here's my blog post about why dogs lick so much, based on my own experiences:

So, my dog, Buster, he's a licker. I mean, really a licker. It got me thinking, why do dogs lick so much? I decided to do some digging and observe him closely to figure it out.
My Licking Investigation Begins
First, I just watched him. Like, really watched him. I noticed he licks a few different things:
- Me: Especially my hands and feet, after I've been cooking or exercising.
- Himself: Mostly his paws, and sometimes his, uh, private areas.
- The Floor: Random spots, it seemed. Sometimes after we'd eaten, sometimes for no apparent reason.
- His Toys: Pretty much constantly while he's playing.
Okay, so lots of licking. But why?
I started with the easiest one: licking me. I figured it was probably about taste. I mean, I'd just made bacon, of course, my hands would taste good! Or, after a workout, maybe he liked the salty sweat (gross, I know). This seemed to make sense. A simple reward for them.
Then, I looked at the self-licking. The paw licking, I read, could be a few things. Sometimes it's just grooming, like a cat. But Buster licks his paws a lot. So I checked his paws really carefully. No cuts, no redness, no obvious problems. Maybe allergies? I made a mental note to ask the vet about that.
The, ahem, other self-licking? Well, that's just normal dog stuff, I guess. They gotta keep clean, right?
The floor licking was the biggest mystery. I tried to see if there was a pattern. Sometimes it was after meals, so maybe he was finding tiny crumbs I missed. But other times… nothing. I even got down on the floor myself (don't judge) to see if I could smell or see anything. Nope.
Finally, the toy licking. That one seemed pretty obvious. He's playing, he's excited, he's slobbering. It's all part of the fun, I guess. And maybe getting his scent all over them.

My Conclusions (For Now)
So, after my very scientific (not really) investigation, here's what I think:
- Licking people is often about taste or affection.
- Paw licking can be normal grooming, but excessive licking might mean something else (allergies, boredom, anxiety).
- "Private area" licking is just normal dog hygiene.
- Floor licking is sometimes about finding crumbs, but sometimes… who knows?
- Toy licking is just part of playtime.
I scheduled an appointment with the vet to talk about the paw licking, just in case. But overall, I realized that licking is just a big part of how dogs experience the world. It's how they taste, explore, clean, and even show love. Buster's a licker, and that's okay (mostly!).
