Puppy Always Hungry? Simple Reasons Why and What to Do
Okay, so my puppy, Gus, always seems like he's starving. It's kinda crazy! I mean, I feed him the recommended amount, but he's always sniffing around for more. So, I decided to figure out what was going on.

First Step: Talking to the Vet
First things first, I took Gus to the vet. I wanted to rule out any medical issues. You know, worms or something like that. Thankfully, the vet gave him a clean bill of health. No parasites, no weird digestive problems. Just a healthy, hungry pup.
Next Up: Checking the Food
The vet suggested looking at the food I was giving him. She asked about the brand and the ingredients. Turns out, I was feeding Gus a decent brand, but maybe it wasn't quite right for him.
- I checked the feeding guidelines on the bag again.
- I made sure I was actually measuring the food, not just eyeballing it.
- I realized I was feeding based on weight, but Gus's weight changes rapidly recently.
Experiment Time!
So, I decided to try a few things. It was a bit of trial and error, honestly.
- I slightly increased his portions, bit by bit, to see if that helped. I didn't want to overfeed him, but I wanted to see if he was genuinely still hungry after his meals.
- I switched to a food with slightly higher protein and fiber. The vet said it might help him feel fuller for longer.
- I started spreading his meals out throughout the day. Instead of two big meals, I gave him three or four smaller ones.
- I added puppy-safe veggies, like carrots to get him more.
The Results?
It took a couple of weeks, but I finally started to see a difference! The combination of slightly larger portions, higher-quality food, and more frequent meals seemed to do the trick. Gus still loves his food (what puppy doesn't?), but he's not acting like he's constantly on the verge of starvation anymore.
It was a bit of a process, but it was totally worth it to see my little guy happy and satisfied. It just goes to show, sometimes you gotta do a little detective work to figure out what your furry friend needs!
