Why Does My Dog Cob Me? Simple Explanations for Dog Corncobbing.

Okay, so my dog, Buster, has this weird habit. He "cobs" me. It's the strangest thing, and I needed to figure out why he does it. So, I started by, you know, just watching him. I observed him closely for a few days.

Why Does My Dog Cob Me? Simple Explanations for Dog Corncobbing.

My Observation Process

First, I noticed it mostly happened when I was sitting on the floor, or sometimes when I was lying down. It wasn't all the time, just specific situations.

  • Situation 1: Me, on the floor, stretching. Buster comes over, starts licking, then nibbling.
  • Situation 2: Relaxing on the couch, feet up. Buster jumps up, licks my hand, then starts that gentle nibbling.

I tried a few things, changed my routine up in these situations. Like, if I was sitting to stretch, I tried sitting a bit differently, or even moving to a different room. To see if his pattern changed or stopped.

Then, to get a bigger picture, I started keeping a little notebook. Yeah, I know, sounds nerdy, but it helped! I jotted down every time he did it, what I was doing, where we were, and anything else that seemed relevant. like if I had just eaten, or used a certain hand lotion, and even things like the time of day.

After a week of writing everything down, I was looking over my notes, I spotted a pattern. It was almost always after I'd been doing something with my hands – like gardening, cooking, or even just typing on my laptop for a long time.

So, my current working theory? Buster is probably attracted to the scents and tiny bits of, whatever, that are lingering on my skin. It is not aggression; its more like grooming, and it also gets him attention. He's a smart cookie, that Buster.

I'm still keeping an eye on him, and still noting it down, just to be sure. But for now, that's my best guess. Dogs are weird, man, but we love 'em, right?
