Make Your Own Toilet Paper Roll Dog Toy: Simple Guide for a Happy Dog
Okay, so, I saw this thing online about making dog toys out of toilet paper rolls. I thought, “Why not?” I’ve got a ton of these rolls lying around, and my dog, Buster, loves to chew on anything he can get his paws on. So, I decided to give it a shot.
First, I gathered all the empty toilet paper rolls I could find. I had quite a few saved up, thinking I’d use them for some craft project eventually. Guess this counts, right?
- Collect toilet paper rolls.
- Find some dog treats.
Then, I grabbed some of Buster’s favorite treats. These were the small, bite-sized ones that he goes crazy for. I stuffed a bunch of these treats into one of the toilet paper rolls. It was pretty easy to fill it up. The tricky part came next.
I folded down the ends of the roll to close it up. I had to make sure the treats wouldn’t just fall out. I wanted Buster to work for it a little, you know? Make it a bit of a challenge.
Making It a Bit More Challenging
After folding the ends, I took a pair of scissors and cut a small hole in the middle of the roll. I made sure the hole was big enough for the treats to fall out, but not too big that they’d all come out at once. This part was a bit of trial and error. I didn’t want to make it too easy for him!
Once that was done, I gave the roll to Buster. Oh boy, he went nuts! He could smell the treats inside and started pawing at the roll, trying to figure out how to get to them. It was hilarious to watch.
He rolled it around, chewed on the ends, and finally, the treats started falling out of the hole. He was so happy, gobbling up the treats as they came out. It kept him busy for a good while, and I was pretty proud of my little DIY project.
Honestly, the hardest part about this whole thing was collecting enough toilet paper rolls. But it was definitely worth it. It’s a cheap, easy, and fun way to keep your dog entertained. Plus, it’s kind of cool to repurpose something that would normally just get thrown away.
I’ve even tried a few variations since then. Sometimes I don’t even cut a hole and just let Buster tear the whole roll to shreds to get to the treats. It gets a bit messy, but he loves it. And sometimes I use old socks or t-shirts, you know, braid them together to make a tug toy. Always make sure whatever you use is safe for your dog, though. No small parts they can choke on.
So yeah, that’s my experience making a dog toy out of a toilet paper roll. It’s safe, it’s fun, and Buster approves! Give it a try if you’re looking for a simple and cheap way to entertain your furry friend.
