Stop Dog Pee on the Couch: Understand Why They Do It and Get Practical Advice!
Okay, so, I gotta tell you about this whole thing with my dog, Buster, and why he was suddenly peeing on the couch. It was a real head-scratcher for a while there.
It all started a few weeks ago. I came home from work, and boom, there it was - a wet spot on the couch. I was like, "What the heck?" Buster's usually pretty good about going outside, so this was totally out of character. I cleaned it up, figuring it was a one-time thing. But nope, it happened again the next day. And then the day after that. I was starting to get seriously worried.
First thing I did was rule out any medical issues. I took Buster to the vet, and she ran some tests. Turns out, he was perfectly healthy. No infections, no nothing. That was a relief, but it also meant I was back to square one. Why was he doing this?
So then I started thinking about any changes around the house. Had anything new happened recently? I racked my brain. And then it hit me. We had just gotten a new kitten, Mittens. Could that be it? Maybe Buster was feeling jealous or insecure?
- I decided to observe their interactions more closely.
- I noticed that Buster was definitely acting a bit different around Mittens. He seemed a little anxious and kept trying to get my attention whenever I was playing with the kitten.
- He even growled a couple of times, which was totally unlike him.
Okay, so maybe this was a jealousy thing. I started making a conscious effort to give Buster more attention. We went for extra walks, played more fetch, and I even gave him some special treats. I also made sure to give him lots of love and cuddles when Mittens wasn't around.
The results?
Slowly but surely, Buster started to chill out. It took a couple of weeks, but the couch-peeing incidents became less frequent. And eventually, they stopped altogether. I think he just needed to know that he was still my number one buddy, even with a new furry friend in the house.
It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but we got through it. Now, Buster and Mittens are actually starting to get along. They even cuddle sometimes! It just goes to show that sometimes, our pets have these little quirks, and it's up to us to figure out what's going on in their furry little heads.
