Giving Miralax to your 50 lb dog? Heres the right amount to use!
Hey everyone, it's your boy here again, back with another one of my little experiments. So, my dog, a big fella about 50 pounds, was having some trouble going to the bathroom. You know, constipation. It's not fun for them, and it's definitely not fun for us to watch them struggle. I did some digging around, asked around, and a lot of folks recommended MiraLAX. Yep, the stuff for humans. I was like, "Seriously? MiraLAX for a dog?" But hey, I was willing to try anything to help my buddy out.
First thing I did was to call up my vet. Gotta make sure this was safe, right? The vet gave me the green light but told me to be careful with the dosage. Apparently, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. We talked about my dog's weight, his overall health, and his history of constipation. Vet said to start small and see how it goes.
So I went out and bought some MiraLAX. Got the unflavored kind, 'cause who knows if my dog would like the taste of whatever flavors they have for humans. The general idea I got from my vet and some online forums was that a small amount, mixed with their food, should do the trick. We're talking a tiny dose here, folks.

Day 1:
I started with about a quarter teaspoon of MiraLAX. Mixed it into his wet food, which he usually gobbles down without a second thought. He didn't even seem to notice the difference. I kept a close eye on him throughout the day, waiting for any signs of, well, you know... movement. Nothing much happened, but I figured it takes time.

Day 2:
Upped the dose just a tad, maybe a little less than half a teaspoon. Still mixed it with his food. He ate it all up, no problem. Still no significant results, but he seemed a bit more comfortable than before. I was starting to feel a bit more hopeful.

Day 3:
Kept the same dose as day 2. And finally, success! My dog finally had a normal bowel movement. He seemed so much happier and lighter. It was such a relief to see him back to his old self. I was stoked! It actually worked!
I continued giving him a tiny bit of MiraLAX for another day or two, just to make sure his system was back on track. Then, I stopped completely. The goal wasn't to make him dependent on it, just to help him get through the rough patch.
So, there you have it. My experience using MiraLAX for my constipated dog. It worked for me, but remember, every dog is different. Always, always talk to your vet before giving your dog any medication, even if it's over-the-counter. And start with a small dose. You can always increase it gradually if needed. Keep an eye on your furry friend, and hopefully, they'll be feeling better in no time!
This is just my personal experience, and I thought I'd share it in case any of you are going through something similar with your dogs. Remember, I'm not a vet, just a dog owner who cares a lot about his pet. Stay safe, and give your pups a big hug for me!
