Best Dog Chew Toys for Labs: Top Picks That Your Lab Will Love!

Hey everyone, I’m back again with another story from my daily life. Today, I wanna talk about something that’s been on my mind lately – chew toys for our furry friends, specifically for labs.

So, I have this lovely Labrador. And like any lab owner would know, these guys love to chew. I mean, they really, really love to chew. I realized pretty quickly that if I didn’t want my shoes, furniture, and basically everything else to be destroyed, I needed to find some good chew toys for my lab.

I started by checking out a bunch of places online, just to see what kinds of toys were out there. I saw that a lot of people were talking about a forum with over 525K subscribers, all about Dachshunds. There were pictures, videos, and even artwork there, but nothing about labs’ toys.

Then I found a website that had a lot of dog food suggestions from their customers. These guys had a massive list of all sorts of foods, but I wasn’t looking for food. I needed toys. Durable ones.

I stumbled upon some ideas on another website about natural, grade A, premium deer, elk, and moose antlers, which looked promising. It was from April 19, 2021, and the site had all sorts of different antler chews. “Your dog will love Perfect Pet Chews!” it said. I made a note of that, as I thought my lab might enjoy these.

And then, I started reading a bit more seriously. I came across this doctor, Dr. Kate Anderson, from Cornell University. She works at something called the Duffield Institute for Animal Behavior. Now, I don’t know much about animal behavior, but I figured she would know a thing or two about what dogs like to chew on.

Armed with all this information, I decided to go out and actually buy some toys. I bought a few different kinds.

  • The first ones I got were some of those antler chews I saw earlier. They seemed really tough, and I figured they would last a while.
  • Then, I got a couple of those classic rubber toys. You know, the ones that are supposed to be “indestructible.” We’ll see about that, I thought.
  • I also picked up a rope toy. I figured it would be good for playing tug-of-war and also for chewing.

I brought all these toys home, and my lab went crazy. I mean, absolutely bonkers. He started chewing on the antler right away, and he seemed to really like it. He also spent a good amount of time with the rubber toy, trying to, you know, destroy it.

The rope toy was a hit too. We played tug-of-war for a while, and then he just sat there, happily gnawing on it.

So, after all this, here’s what I learned:

  • Antler chews are a good option. They’re tough, natural, and my lab seems to enjoy them.
  • Those “indestructible” rubber toys? Yeah, they’re not really indestructible, but they do hold up pretty well, at least for a while.
  • Rope toys are great for both playing and chewing.

Final Thoughts

Finding the best chew toys for your lab is a bit of trial and error. You gotta see what your dog likes and what holds up to their chewing. But hopefully, my little experiment here gives you a good starting point. Just remember to always keep an eye on your dog when they’re chewing on something, just to make sure they’re safe. Alright, that’s it for today, see ya next time!
