Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting a dog, and I really want to give him a cool name from a book. You know, something with a bit of a story behind it. I’m not a huge reader, but I do love the idea of a literary name.

So I started digging around online. Man, there are so many options! It’s kinda overwhelming. I found a bunch of articles and lists, and it seems like everybody has a different opinion on what makes a good literary dog name.

I jotted down a few ideas, just to get the ball rolling:

  • Atticus – I think this one’s from “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Sounds strong and wise, right?
  • Gatsby – From “The Great Gatsby,” obviously. A little flashy, maybe, but I kinda like it.
  • Sherlock – The famous detective! Could be cool for a smart, curious dog.
  • Frodo – For the “Lord of the Rings” fans. I haven’t actually read it, but everyone knows who Frodo is.

But then I started thinking, maybe I should actually read some of these books before I name my dog after a character. It feels a little weird to just pick a name without knowing the story, you know?

I spent a whole afternoon just going through lists of literary dog names. I was looking for something that sounds good and is easy to yell across the park. I ended up with a shortlist of about ten names.

The Shortlist

I narrowed it down based on what I thought sounded cool and what kind of personality I imagined my future dog having. Here’s what I’ve got:

  • Darcy – This one I just like because I saw the movie.
  • Holmes – I’d just watched the Sherlock Holmes on the TV last week.
  • Sawyer – I read this book when I was a kid.
  • Finn – This name is popular, isn’t it?
  • Romeo – I don’t know about this one, seems a bit too romantic.

Now, the real work begins. I gotta pick just one! I’m thinking of making flashcards with the names and the stories behind them. Maybe that will help me decide. Or maybe I’ll just wait until I meet the dog and see what name feels right.

Anyway, that’s where I’m at with this whole literary dog name thing. It’s been a fun little project, even if I haven’t made a final decision yet. I’ll keep you guys posted!
